Where the industry standard extracted only a fraction of a pound of molten steel, an eight-pound sampler was designed and built. It could be deployed directly into ladles or bottle cars, eliminating the need for subcontractors and collapsing sampling costs from thousands of dollars into a simple, repeatable, low-cost process.
Aerospace systems thinking was applied regardless of industry. Redundancy, failure analysis, load paths, and lifecycle considerations were treated as mandatory, not optional. Whether mechanical, operational, or organizational, systems were expected to survive real-world conditions, not theoretical ones.
